He had a lifelong involvement with cricket at all levels in Hampshire and was described by Christopher Martin-Jenkins in The Telegraph in 1996 as:

"...a tireless worker for the county's young players..."

Michael May's enthusiasm for cricket in the region is demonstrated by the range of offices he held at various times throughout his life;

  • Committee Member of Hampshire County Cricket Club

  • President of the Winchester and District Cricket

  • Association Founder member and later Chairman of the Old Symondians' Cricket Club

  • Selector and Chairman of the Hampshire Schools XI

  • Selector for the West of England Schools' XI

  • Selector for the England Schools' XI

  • Master in Charge of Cricket, King Edward's School, Southampton 1974 - 1984

Above all, Michael sought to nurture the development of young cricketers and to foster their enjoyment of the game.

The Foundation aims to continue this work.
